Sillimanians express support for Robredo
BACOLOD CITY – Sillimanians, including a former Cabinet secretary and a former president of the Silliman University (SU) in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, have expressed support to Vice President Leni Robredo’s bid for the presidency.
The group led by Dr. Crispin Maslog said Robredo is the only one who epitomizes the three principles for which Silliman stands: (VIA, VERITAS, VITA) the way, the truth, and the life.
“Robredo knows the way to traverse in the next six years, after having served as vice president for the past six years, holding office quietly and serving in that capacity despite obstacles thrown her way by President Duterte,” the statement read.
“She rendered services to people from all walks of life, from the north to the south, quietly but effectively. She is the most experienced among the candidates not only as an executive on the national level, but also as a local executive with years of experience working with her husband who was mayor in Naga, Camarines Sur, and as congresswoman,” it added.
Maslog, former director of the SU College of Mass Communication, said among the hundreds of signatories of the statement were Dr. Angel C. Alcala, a Ramon Magsaysay Awardee and former secretary of the Commission on Higher Education and of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR); and Dr. Ben Malayang, former DENR assistant secretary and president of the university.
The group said Robredo is a respected economist and lawyer, and will be able to guide the country out of the economic quagmire.

Only a virtuous leader can hope to solve the problem of corruption in our government,” it added.
