DA tightens watch vs bird flu in Western Visayas
ILOILO CITY — The Department of Agriculture (DA) in Western Visayas is urging the local governments in the region to temporarily ban the entry of poultry products from other places to avoid the spread of the bird flu.
DA-Western Visayas Director Remelyn Recoter said only the province of Negros Occidental has released an order to ban poultry products outside its scope.
“Like the ASF (African swine fever), we are praying, with the efforts also of the local government units in terms of surveillance to control the entry of the (bird flu) viruses in Western Visayas,” said Recoter in a radio interview.
Meanwhile, the temporary ban of pork products entering the region is still implemented because of the ASF outbreak in other parts of the country.
As of March 11, Western Visayas remained ASF free.
