MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies and rain should be expected over several parts of the country on Friday due to the shear line and northeast monsoon, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

According to Pagasa senior weather specialist Robert Badrina, the shear line will bring cloudy skies and rain over Eastern Luzon — specifically Quezon Province, Bicol Region and Aurora — as well as the region of Mimaropa.

The northeast monsoon, locally known as the amihan, will likewise bring the same weather conditions to parts of Northern Luzon, specifically Batanes and the Cagayan Valley.

(In the rest of Luzon we expect isolated rain, lightning and thunder but generally clear weather including Western Luzon, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Manila and some parts of Calabarzon.)

The shear line will also bring rain over Eastern Visayas as well as the Caraga region in Mindanao, said Badrina, while the remaining areas of the two major islands will experience fairer weather conditions with chances of isolated light rains.
