Six people were killed while 12 others were hurt on Sunday when their dump truck was hit by a trailer truck and fell into a ravine along the mountain highway in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija, police said.
The victims were among the 28 residents and village officials of Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya, who were on their way home from a “lakbay-aral” (educational trip) in Pangasinan. The truck was part of a 13-vehicle convoy that ferried about 300 village officials and residents of Diadi.
Senior Inspector German Lising, Carranglan police chief, said Lawrence Gahal, a village chief in Diadi, and Josephine Jallorina, died instantly when their truck plunged into a ravine along the highway in Sitio (sub-village) Taktak in Barangay (village) Puncan in Carranglan at about 3 p.m.
Suzette Dulnuan, Lolita Nagsagaray, Teresita Abon and Rosa Lunag died in hospitals in Nueva Ecija and Nueva Vizcaya, he said.
Police said the dump truck driver lost control of the vehicle when the trailer truck hit it. The trailer truck driver, Gilbert Alarcon, abandoned the vehicle a few meters from the accident site. Anselmo Roque, Inquirer Central Luzon
