Rappler insists Comelec deal has legal basis
MANILA, Philippines — Online news website Rappler has insisted that its fact-checking agreement with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has a “solid” legal basis.
In a statement late Tuesday, Rappler said the “unilateral decision” of Comelec Commissioner Socorro Inting was “regrettable” and “unfortunate.”

Rappler claimed the decision was based on “false and unsubstantiated claims” of Solicitor General Jose Calida, whom it accused of “obviously acting on behalf of partisan interests.”
