MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga––The active COVID-19 cases in the City of San Fernando increased by 100 percent – from six to 12 – in four days, data from the city health office showed.

On March 8, the city government registered four new cases, a single recovery, and zero deaths. The new cases include two residents of Telabastagan village and one each from Lourdes and Quebiawan.

The capital city had been registering since Feb. 28 single-digit cases, including the lowest on March 2 when the locality had four patients.

Some netizens expressed their concern over the slight increase of cases in the city.

“Let’s take it easy and not be too complacent, Omicron is still around. Let us not forget to follow health protocols,” a resident commented on the city government’s social media page.

San Fernando had recorded 14,268 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in 2020. Of these, 13,935 had recovered, while 339 had died.

On Tuesday, the neighboring Angeles City has 10 active cases after registering one new patient, three recoveries, and no deaths.

Since the pandemic started, the highly urbanized city had recorded 14,575 COVID-19 cases, of which 14,026 had recovered, while 539 had died.
