MANILA, Philippines — Senatorial candidate Grego Belgica said that aside from his plan to fight corruption, drugs, and poverty, he also wants to set up a fund system that will help the agriculture sector.
“I will establish the cooperative venture capital fund system, and I will put P1 billion in it so farmers will have additional capital to invest in their products,” said Belgica in the recent CNN Senatorial Forum.
Belgica added he wants to give local farmers access to the latest technology available to boost agricultural production.
The venture capital fund will also be used to provide funding needed by farmers in the form of subsidies.
“I will invest highly on technology to teach farmers better ways and system on how to plant and harvest,” he said.
“At the same time we will invest heavily on the agriculture sector to help our farmer give more subsidies to our farmers.”
Belgica also clarified that the venture capital fund is not a loan but an investment to their business.
“The venture capital fund is not a loan, it’s an investment on farming and agricultural activities,” he said.
Meanwhile, Belgica also talked about ways to make internet access in the country faster and affordable.
“There’s no better way to improve services than to open it to competition,” he siad.
“It’s well known that the internet service providers here are very few. I will open the gateway for other internet service providers to give their services to the Philippines to offer better services at lesser cost.”
