MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles as the new chairman of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

Photos from Malacañang show that Nograles took his oath as the new CSC chairman before President Duterte in the Malacañang Palace on Monday.

Nograles replaced Alicia Dela Rosa-Bala, who retired last February 2. His seven-year term will expire on Feb. 2, 2029.

Apart from being the Cabinet Secretary, Nograles also serves as the acting presidential spokesperson and the co-chair of the government’s pandemic policy-making body, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

With his new appointment, Nograles said the three positions are “automatically deemed vacated.”
