MANILA, Philippines — A total of 1,166 families were affected by the flood that inundated Iligan City, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) disclosed Monday.
The NDRRMC information officer Easha Mariano told INQUIRER.net that the flood, which also affected Lanao del Norte, was caused by the easterlies and low pressure area (LPA) spotted off Mindanao.
The affected families have returned to their homes after the flood subsided.
“Based from the initial report due to continuous rains caused by the LPA/easterlies, nagkaroon po ng (there was a) flooding incident kagabi (last night) that resulted to 1,166 families affected [in Iligan City], pero nag subside na po ang baha ngayon at may mga pamilya na po ang bumabalik sa kanilang mga bahay (but the flood subsided and they are now returning home),” Mariano said in a message.
“Nagkaroon po ng rescue ops sa binahang areas sa Iligan at pre-emptive evac sa Kauswagan, [Lanao del Norte],” she added.

As of posting time, 40 households from Barangay Tacub and 14 families from Barangay Kawit Occidental in Lanao del Norte remain in evacuation centers.
Mariano said that no damage was reported in Iligan City but a bridge is currently not passable in Barangay Libertad, Kauswagan in Lanao del Norte and is undergoing repairs.
Electricity, which was interrupted in Lanao del Norte, has now been restored, the NDRRMC official said.
Currently, the agency’s regional counterpart is monitoring the situation as they are experiencing rains again.
