MANILA, Philippines — Women will receive free rides in the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) on March 8, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced Monday.

The free rides for women are in line with the celebration of the National Women’s Day.

Female commuters may avail the free rides from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Aside from free rides, the DOTr and the LRT Authority (LRTA) teamed up with the Philippine Red Cross Marikina and Manila Chapters for blood typing test, blood pressure checking, and random blood sugar test at Recto and Araneta Center-Cubao Stations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“These activities aim to honor and recognize the indispensable role of women in our society as well as reaffirm DOTR and LRTA’s commitment to gender equality and women empowerment,” LRTA Administrator Jeremy Regino said in a statement.

MRT-3 officer in charge General Manager Assistant Secretary Eymard Eje shared the same view.

“Kaisa po ng buong bansa ang pamunuan ng MRT-3 sa pagdiriwang at pagsaludo sa dedikasyon, galing, at puso ng bawat kababaihang Pilipino,” Eje said in a statement.

(MRT-3 management joins the entire nation in celebration and honoring the dedication, excellence, and heart of every Filipina.)

“Nawa sa simpleng paraan tulad ng aming libreng sakay ay makapaghatid tayo ng kasiyahan sa ating mga kababaihan sa kanilang espesyal na araw,” he added.

(We wish to  bring joy to the women by way of free rides on their special day.)
