SCIENCE CITY OF MUÑOZ, Nueva Ecija, Philippines — Presidential candidate Sen. Manny Pacquiao vowed to work harder than a carabao, the country’s so-called “beast of burden,” if only to deliver his campaign promises if elected on May 9.
“[I will work] more than a carabao pa kasi ang kalabaw ay namamahinga pag gabi (because carabaos take a rest at night),” Pacquaio said here on Friday.
Pacquiao, along with former Samar Gov. Lutgardo Barbo, visited the Philippine Carabao Center here on Friday, met with some farmers in this city, and talked to residents of San Jose City before meeting with local officials in Guimba town in Nueva Ecija province.
Pacquiao said he also had the advantage of being physically strong among all presidential candidates.
“I will work to put the corrupt officials in jail. I will work to strengthen the economy. I will work to give each family their own homes. I will work so that the Filipinos can have jobs,” he said.
He added he could work for 24 hours, alluding to one of his presidential rivals, Vice President Leni Robredo, who said she works for as long as 18 hours a day.
“One should never count his work hours,” he said.
Taking a swipe at another presidential candidate, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Pacquiao said Marcos lacked the moral ascendancy to lead the country.
