MANILA, Philippines —- With less than 67 days to go before Election Day, the opposition ticket has started campaigning in areas where it needs to muster more support, starting with the City of Manila, the bailiwick of another presidential aspirant.
On Wednesday, hundreds of pink-clad supporters showed up strong for presidential aspirant and Vice President Leni Robredo, her running mate Sen. Francis Pangilinan and their senatorial ticket at Plaza Noli in Sampaloc.
During her speech, Robredo told the crowd that their dream of a prosperous country “[would] never be realized if we make a mistake this coming elections.”
“Until we have not replaced the old, rotten brand of politics, nothing will happen to us,” she said.
“Let us make sure to elect a government that is honest. When your government is honest, angat buhay lahat (everybody wins),” she added, quoting her campaign slogan.
Echoing her statement, Pangilinan reminded Manileños “that your vote is very important” as he urged them to choose candidates with proven track records.
“Look for receipts,” he told them. “We have the power to say who must win the elections. Let us use that power and go to our neighbors, friends and family and convince them.”
In 2016, Manila voters gave the late dictator’s son, former Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., a huge lead over Robredo in the vice presidential race. Marcos is now running for president, a post also being contested by incumbent Manila Mayor Francisco Domagoso.
