MANILA, Philippines — Police have arrested Eastern Visayas’ three most wanted persons in separate manhunt operations in Leyte and Samar, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.

PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos identified the arrested suspects as Jeffre Cernio Carnesil, 35; Jaemar Corpuz Cañete, 22; and Jonas Madolid Ramirez alias “Allan/Diwan”, 37.

Carlos said Carnesil, who is listed as Leyte’s second-most wanted, was arrested at 8:11 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, in Brgy. Rizal, Dulag Leyte through a warrant issued by Branch 34 of the Bulwagan ng Katarungan, Tacloban City.

Meanwhile, Cañete, who is also listed among Leyte’s most wanted persons, was captured at 6:45 p.m. in Brgy. Tabunok, Isabel by virtue of an arrest warrant for rape from Ormoc City Regional Trial Court 12. The court did not recommend bail for Cañete.

Ramirez, on the other hand, was collared at around 11 a.m. in Brgy. Laurel, Gen. MacArthur in Eastern Samar. Carlos said Ramirez is a member of the local communist group and ranked No. 7 in the region’s most-wanted list. A warrant for murder with no recommended bail was issued against Ramirez by Guiuan, Eastern Samar Regional Trial Court Branch 3, police said.

“I congratulate our Eastern Visayas police for successful one-day manhunt operations against wanted persons. Ipagpatuloy nyo ang inyong pagpapatupad ng batas, hulihin ang mga personalidad sa krimen at sila ay panagutin sa kanilang kasalanan upang tuluyang mabigyan ng hustisya ang kanilang naging biktima”, Carlos said in a statement.
