DepEd: Over 6K schools ready to hold in-person classes

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday said a total of 6,145 schools are ready to hold face-to-face classes as of February this year.

In data it released on Wednesday, the DepEd said that the Bicol region registered the highest number of schools ready for in-person classes, followed by the Zamboanga region with 845, and Cordillera Administrative Region with 732.

Meanwhile, Eastern Visayas posted the lowest number of schools prepared for face-to-face classes with 60 schools, followed by Western Visayas with 78.

The DepEd said a total of 4,315 schools, comprising 4,239 public and 76 private schools, have already started holding in-person classes as of Wednesday, March 2.

DepEd is eyeing the easing of requirements for the implementation of in-person classes as Metro Manila and other areas shift to a “new normal” starting this month, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones earlier said.

For the National Economic Development Authority, about P12 billion worth of economic activity is set to be gained if all schools across the country are allowed to resume in-person classes.
