MANILA, Philippines — Warmer temperatures may be expected in the coming days, especially during daytime, as the northeast monsoon, locally termed “amihan,” further weakens, the state weather bureau said Monday.
Senior weather specialist Chris Perez said the country will gradually feel hotter weather as they expect the northeast monsoon to continuously reduce its strength, even hinting that the hot dry season in the Philippines may set in either this week or next week.
“Sa Metro Manila, patuloy ngang dahan natin mararamdaman ganun din sa natitirang bahagi ng ating bansa ‘yung mas mainit na daytime temperature,” said Perez.
(In Metro Manila, as well as for the rest of our country, we will continue to gradually feel warmer daytime temperatures.)
“Dahil inaasahan nga natin sa patuloy na paghina ng amihan ay posible nang magsimula either this week or next week ‘yung panahon ng tag-init dito sa ating bansa,” he added.
(As we expect a continuous weakening of the northeast monsoon, our country’s hot dry season may possibly begin either this week or next week.)
For Tuesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said majority of the country will experience generally fair weather although isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms are still possible in parts of Luzon.
Overcast skies and rain are likewise forecast to continue over Eastern Visayas due to the effects of the northeast monsoon while the rest of Visayas and the entire Mindanao are predicted to see fairer and hotter weather.
Pagasa also said temperatures in key cities/areas nationwide on Tuesday will be:
- Metro Manila: 24 to 33 degrees Celsius
- Baguio City: 15 to 25 degrees Celsius
- Laoag City: 22 to 32 degrees Celsius
- Tuguegarao: 23 to 32 degrees Celsius
- Legazpi City: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
- Puerto Princesa City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
- Tagaytay: 22 to 30 degrees Celsius
- Kalayaan Islands: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
- Iloilo City: 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
- Cebu: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
- Tacloban City: 23 to 29 degrees Celsius
- Cagayan De Oro City: 23 to 31 degrees Celsius
- Zamboanga City: 24 to 34 degrees Celsius
- Davao City: 23 to 32 degrees Celsius
And amid the descending northeast monsoon, Pagasa said a gale warning is no longer raised but moderate to rough seas are still expected over the northern and eastern seaboards of the country.
