Bongbong-Sara tandem gets backing from some pro-President Duterte, Bong Go groups

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Even as President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Bong Go have yet to endorse any presidential candidate, some of their supporters have already decided to back the tandem of presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio.

A number of groups gathered Monday in Quezon City to sign a memorandum of agreement and oath taking in support of the Bongbong-Inday Sara tandem.

The groups formed the “Let’s Go-UniTeam Coalition” even as President Duterte and Go have both not expressed support towards any presidential candidate.

“BBM (Bongbong Marcos) is the only best skilled, capable and efficient leader amongst all other candidates to lead the country as shown in his vast experience as local chief executive and as a legislator and is the needed kind of leader who can sustain the growth and development spared by the Duterte administration to bring a more prosperous future for the Filipino people,” the groups said.

Go initially filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for presidency, with the support of President Duterte. Go, however, later pulled out of the presidential race.

The PDP-Laban wing of President Duterte and Go has since adopted Duterte-Carpio as its vice presidential candidate. The wing, however, has not endorsed any presidential candidate yet—including Duterte-Carpio’s running mate Marcos.

President Duterte, at one point, even called Marcos a “weak leader.”

Asked if Go sanctioned the groups supporting the Bongbong-Sara tandem, Marcos’ campaign manager Benhur Abalos said he does not know.

“What is important is their leaders are here, importante dito ang mga leader nila… Nakakatuwa kasi ibig sabihin ito ang grassroots organization, yun ang ano dito,” Abalos told reporters at the sideline of the event.

INQUIRER.net has sought the reaction of Go on the story but has yet to receive a reply as of posting time.
