PH’s new COVID-19 cases at over 1,000 for 6th straight day

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,745 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, making it the sixth straight day that new coronavirus infections were recorded at just over 1,000.

The cases were slightly higher than Wednesday’s 1,534 cases but the active caseload further dropped from 55,449 to 55,079.

According to the DOH, there were also additional 2,045 recoveries and 188 deaths. Of the 3,657,342 confirmed COVID-19 cases, a total of 3,546,098 were recoveries and 56,165 are deaths.

The DOH said 91.8 percent of the currently active cases are either mild or asymptomatic. A total of 637 patients are asymptomatic, while 49,927 are tagged mild cases, 2,788 are moderate, 1,428 are severe, and 299 are critical.

Twenty-eight percent of intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 24 percent of isolation beds, and 17 percent of ward beds nationwide for COVID-19 patients are currently occupied. In Metro Manila, 26 percent of ICU beds and 25 percent of isolation and ward beds are in use.

The positivity rate, meanwhile, remains at 6.3 percent out of 28,246 individuals who got tested for the virus on Tuesday.

The DOH said all testing laboratories were operational on Tuesday, but three were not able submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
