CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines — Popular delicacies in Carcar City, in the south of Cebu, have turned pink in anticipation of the visit of Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo, a presidential candidate, on Thursday, Feb. 24.

Renowned Cebuano dancers Val Sandiego and wife Ofelia prepared pink giveaways such as bucarillo, ampao, and puto.. They will give these away at the rally of Robredo and her running mate, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, at the Southwestern University (SWU) in Cebu City.

The couple, who founded the multi-awarded Sandiego Dance Company, will be among the volunteers who will present a number during the rally.

In a press statement, Robredo’s campaign leaders in Cebu said the presidential aspirant will be visiting Talisay City, Toledo City, Argao town, and Cebu City for her first grand rally at the country’s most vote-rich province with about 3.3 million voters.

At least 20 groups in Cebu have joined forces in what they call the “Maka-Leni sa Sugbo.”

According to organizers, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) has implemented a total of 276 projects in 41 local governments in Cebu worth P59.3 million.

The OVP also distributed P20 million to three hospitals in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, and Talisay as part of its medical assistance program, as well as 370 sacks of rice worth over P190,000 to Cebu City’s homeless as part of its relief assistance initiative.

In the aftermath of Typhoon Odette last December 2021, Robredo visited Cebu less than 48 hours after the storm hit. The OVP provided affected families in Cebu and other hard-hit provinces in Visayas and Mindanao with shelter repair kits, which they can use to begin rebuilding their homes.

Robredo also helped in job-generating initiatives such as supporting Cebu City’s business process outsourcing (BPO) industry and developing eco-tourism projects.

Expected to join Robredo’s caravan are former Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr., his son Vice Governor Hilario Davide III, and the slate of Bando Osmena Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK), which will be led by former Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña and former Councilor Margot Osmeña.

Robredo will first visit Talisay City to meet with fisherfolk from Barangay Tangke, and supporters from various sectors and groups in the city.

She will then proceed to Argao town and Toledo City for a separate People’s Rally.

At around 4 p.m., Robredo will hold another People’s Rally in Cebu City which will be attended by senatorial aspirants Chel Diokno, Alex Lacson, Sonny Matula, and Sonny Trillanes.
