THE SACRED HEART School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles posted yet another dominating performance en route to making the semifinal round as they blasted West Negros University, 96-59, at the close of the elimination round in the Seaoil NBTC Elite League National High School Championships yesterday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Magis Eagles wasted little time in asserting themselves in the match as they led, 27-16, after just one period, thanks to the hustling play of Mavii Suarez, who already had 12 points in that stretch.
Things turned from bad to worse for the Bacolod-based squad as the Magis Eagles turned up the heat and started the second canto on fire, rattling off 15 unanswered points with baskets coming from Suarez, Dave Wilson Yu and Dandan Tecson. Later in the period, a difficult layup by Patrick Go gave them a huge 30-point bulge, 52-22.
Suarez eventually finished the game with a monster game of 24 points and 15 boards while Dawn Ochea added 13 markers. Julius Cadavis, the Cebu leg’s Most Outstanding Player, had 12 even as Go and Yu each had 10./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
