Around 6,000 minors ages 5-11 in San Juan receive 1st dose of COVID-19 shot

MANILA, Philippines — Around 6,000 registered minors aged 5-11 years old in San Juan have received the first dose of their COVID-19 vaccines, Mayor Francis Zamora said on Tuesday.

“For the minors ages 5 to 11, we have already finished their first dose vaccination,” Zamora told INQUIRER.net over the phone.

Zamora said their second dose will be administered to them starting on February 28.

“We have protected our younger age group of San Juaneños and we believe that other cities are doing the same,” he added.

The city also boasts of having a 258 percent vaccination rate, according to Zamora.

The city only has 28 active cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, which, Zamora said, is already a 99 percent drop from 6 weeks ago when the city had 1,947 cases during the peak of the surge.

The local chief executive added that their quarantine facility is only 3.7 percent occupied, while the San Juan Medical Center’s COVID-19 wards are only 16 percent full.

In light of the positive development, Zamora said he will vote to downgrade the alert level status in the metropolis to Alert Level 1.

Metro Manila is under Alert Level 2 until February 28.
