Magnitude 5.3 quake hits Occidental Mindoro

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake jolted Occidental Mindoro and nearby areas on Monday afternoon, said the Phivolcs.

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake jolted Occidental Mindoro and nearby areas on Monday afternoon, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

According to Phivolcs, the epicenter of the earthquake, which struck at exactly 3:22 p.m., was traced 16 kilometers northeast of Abra De Ilog, Occidental Mindoro.

It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 106 kilometers.

Phivolcs said it registered the earthquake at Intensity III in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro and Intensity II in Quezon City.

Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensities were felt in the following areas:

  • Intensity III – Calapan City; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro
  • Intensity II – Batangas City; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Tagaytay City; Magalang, Pampanga
  • Intensity I – Muntinlupa City; Carmona, Cavite

No damage caused by the earthquake is expected, but Phivolcs warned of possible aftershocks.
