Police arrest carjacker in Quezon City

A suspected carjacker was nabbed by patrolling policemen before he could drive away with a stolen van with its female driver still inside it on Friday night in Quezon City.

The man, Antonio Diaz, 32, was found armed with an ice pick after his arrest in front of the Savemore Supermarket at the corner of Araneta and Del Monte Avenues in Barangay Talayan.

Supt. Lino Banaag, La Loma police station commander, said the victim, Trinidad Alcantara, 47, caught the attention of the patrolling policemen by her shouts.

Diaz allegedly tried to drive away with Alcantara’s gray Toyota Innova (ZNL 277) with the victim. Alcantara told investigators she bought some groceries from the supermarket and left her Innova in the parking lot.

When she went back to her vehicle and opened the door, Diaz suddenly appeared at her side armed with an icepick.

The suspect allegedly pushed the victim inside the car and climbed behind the steering wheel.

The Innova was  about to leave the parking lot when policemen noticed the commotion and heard  the shouts of the victim.

Diaz is now detained at the La Loma police station.  Julie M. Aurelio
