MANILA, Philippines — Around P1.1 million worth of suspected crystal meth or shabu was seized by operatives during a buy-bust operation in Navotas City, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Wednesday.
According to reports from NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr., officers from the Navotas Police conducted a buy-bust operation on Monday, at Barangay Tanza 1.
The suspect, identified as a certain Rudy Las Piñas, 40, was arrested during the operation. Nine sachets containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu were seized from Las Piñas.
Operatives said that the shabu weighed around 174 grams, which is equivalent to an estimated street value of P1.183 million according to the Dangerous Drugs Board.
Aside from the illegal substance, police also managed to recover the P1,000 bill used as a marked money, a P1,500 bill, one notebook, a weighing scale, a small pail, one cellular phone, and a .32 caliber Colt pistol with serial no. 751453, loaded with a magazine containing six live ammunition.
Danao said that the recovered shabu was submitted to the laboratory for analysis, while the suspect was temporarily detained at the Navotas Police Station.
The suspect is expected to face charges for violating Republic Act No 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, along with Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act in relation to the Omnibus Election Code, due to him carrying a firearm amid the gun ban.
