MANILA, Philippines — An additional 2,010 new cases of COVID-19 were reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday, now the new lowest recorded since the year began, along with 6,321 more recoveries
This was registered amid a low number of tests at only 20,084 — much lower than Monday’s 28,620.
Meanwhile, DOH recorded a 10.4 percent positivity rate in these tests conducted, which also makes it the lowest this year.
The average number of tests conducted in February has considerably been lower compared to the number of tests conducted in January, or during the height of the latest COVID-19 surge believed to be caused by the Omicron variant of concern.

Based on the DOH’s report, 78 percent or 1,570 of the new infections were logged within the last 14 days with NCR listed as the top region posting the highest number of new cases at 238 new cases (15 percent) in the recent two weeks, followed by Region 4-A with 183 (12 percent) and Region 6 with 159 (10 percent).
With this, total confirmed infections are now at 3,641,940 and recoveries at 3,514,489.
With the higher number of recoveries, active cases have reduced to 72,305, of which 93.5 percent currently suffer mild or asymptomatic cases; specifically, 66,093 individuals suffer mild cases, 1,498 are asymptomatic, 2,961 moderate, 1,441 severe, and 312 critical.
The DOH said it also recorded the deaths of 54 people, increasing the total COVID-19 death count to 55,146.
Likewise, the health agency said that 12 duplicates were removed from the total case count, 9 of which were recoveries.
Moreover, the DOH said that 34 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
