MANILA, Philippines — Active personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard will get free rides at the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) after signing an agreement with the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on commuter safety.
LRTA administrator Jeremy Regino and PCG commandant vice-admiral Leopoldo Laroya signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on Monday, February 8, during the Commandant’s Night held at the Rizal Park Hotel in Manila.
Under the MOA, the PCG will conduct regular emergency drills, provide regular RT-PCR testing to LRT-2 employees, and assist LRTA during crises and medical emergencies.
Meanwhile, the LRTA shall give free rides to all active PCG personnel at LRT-2 upon presentation of their PCG identification cards.
“Giving PCG personnel free train rides is a simple way of recognizing their sacrifices and humanitarian service to our country,” Regino said.
“With the MOA, they will not just be protecting our maritime resources but will also be available to assist the LRT-riding public during calamities, including this pandemic,” he added.
LRT-2 frontline personnel is required to regularly test for COVID-19 to ensure the safety of both LRTA employees and passengers in accordance with the instructions of the Department of Transportation.
Similar agreements were also signed by LRTA with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police in 2020 for police visibility and passenger safety at LRT-2.
