Several Central Visayas areas to be placed in polls watchlist due to intense rivalries, Comelec exec says
CEBU CITY — Some localities in Central Visayas will be placed under the election watchlist (EWAS) due to intense political rivalries.
Lawyer Ferdinand Gujilde, legal officer and spokesperson of the Commission on Election (Comelec) in the region, did not identify the names of these localities, saying the poll body and law enforcement agencies have yet to evaluate them.
“We do not have an estimate for now. I think there will be very few localities that will be included in the EWAS in the province of Cebu. Maybe in Negros Oriental, and also in Bohol. But these are still subject to evaluation,” he said.
The Regional Joint Security Control that includes the Comelec, Police Regional Office in Central Visayas, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Visayas Command, will hold a conference Friday, Feb. 11, to discuss the areas to be included in the election watchlist, and the security plans for the May 9 polls.
