MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Wednesday said it was “closely monitoring” the activities of Kanlaon Volcano in jurisdiction of Bago City the agency recorded 11 “very shallow” earthquakes as of 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
There was no visible degassing activity from the crater of Kanlaon Volcano, but Phivolcs said that localized shallow seismic activity and short-term ground deformation are likely processes that could generate a phreatic or steam-driven explosions. Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 1, which Phivolcs explained to means that it is in “at low-level unrest.”
