Sara Duterte says 7 Senate bets not in official slate are ‘friends’

MANILA, Philippines — Vice presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio recently said there are seven senatorial candidates whom she called her “friends” but were not included in her official slate.
“Meron din po akong mga kaibigan na tumatakbong senators na kahit pulitika man o wala ay magiging kaibigan ko pa rin sila,” Duterte-Carpio said during the proclamation rally of her tandem with presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday.
(I have friends who are also vying for Senate seats who, politics aside, will remain my friends.)
The seven senatorial candidates that Duterte-Carpio mentioned are as follows:
- actor Robin Padilla
- former presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo
- Sorsogon governor and former senator Francis Escudero
- former Philippine National Police chief Guillermo Eleazar
- former vice president Jejomar Binay
- former senator JV Ejercito
- reelectionist senator Joel Villanueva
Currently, there are 11 names in the official Marcos-Duterte senatorial slate. These are:
- Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri
- Senator Sherwin Gatchalian
- House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta
- Atty. Larry Gadon
- House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda
- Former senator Jinggoy Estrada
- Former public works secretary Mark Villar
- Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque
- Former defense secretary Gilbert Teodoro
- Former Quezon City mayor Herbert Bautista
- Former senator Gringo Honasan
Atty. Vic Rodriguez, Marcos’s spokesperson, said that the tandem is planning to have a 12th senatorial candidate to complete their slate in the coming days.
