MANILA, Philippines — Former first lady Imelda Marcos on Tuesday said that her son, presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, “have a good chance to win” in the coming May 9 elections.

“I have already been campaigning a lot and from what I feel from the people I’ve been talking to, we have a good chance to win,” said the 92-year-old Marcos matriarch in a video message.

She explained that she would not be able to join her son in the proclamation event in the Philippine Arena, Bulacan, as she was suffering from a “bad fall” in 2020.

“But you can be sure I will do my best in the campaign not only for Bongbong and Sara but for everybody, all the candidates of the group and the party, and I will do my share,” she said.

Imelda was a former beauty queen who married and served as the first lady of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

She was also found guilty of seven counts of graft by the Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division in 2018 and is only out on bail.
