MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has denied individual applications from the camps of Vice President Leni Robredo and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso for one campaign event each because they were either filed late or lacked some documents.
Comelec Education and Information Department Director Elaiza David said Tuesday that the denied individual applications were for campaign events in Metro Manila and Central Luzon. However, she clarified that this does not mean that all applications for campaign rallies of the two presidential candidates have been rejected.
“The denial of the application of VP Leni Robredo in NCR was for the conduct of a rally and the reason for the denial is because they lack Annex A, so basically ‘yun po ang (that is the) application and special power of attorney,” she explained in an online press briefing.
“With regard to the denial of the application on the part of Mayor Isko Moreno in Region 3, [that] was for the conduct of a motorcade. [The] reason for denial was that it was filed out of time. [The] application should be filed at least 72 hours prior to the conduct of the activity. It was filed out of time and they left some of the requirements,” she added.
“It does not mean na lahat po (that all campaign events were denied). Isa lang po ito (This is just one) out of the several applications,” she further stressed.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez also emphasized that the denials were not for the entire campaign drive of Robredo and Moreno.
“I’d like to emphasize that when we are talking about denials, we are talking about denials of individual campaign events, not covering the entire campaign itself,” he said.
