Gov’t studying ‘no booster card, no entry’ proposal

MANILA, Philippines — The government is studying the “no booster card, no entry” proposal after it was discussed among Metro Manila mayors, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Romando Artes said Tuesday.

 “Amin pong napag-usapan ‘yan nung Linggo sa pagpupulong po ng Metro Manila Council. Tinalakay na po ‘yan. Sabi po nila [Secretary] Vince Dizon at [Secretary] Charlie Galvez, ‘yan po ay pag-aaralan,” he shared during the Laging Handa briefing.

(We tackled that last Sunday during the Metro Manila Council meeting. Secretary Vince Dizon and Secretary Charlie Galvez said that this will be studied.)

“May mga mungkahi po kasi ang mga mayors ng Kalakhang Maynila kung paano po mapapaigting pa ang pagbibigay ng booster shots. I don’t want to preempt po pero nasa table na po ang mga bagay na ‘yan,” he explained.

(Metro Manila mayors have proposals on how to ramp up the administration of booster shots. I don’t want to preempt but that is already on the table.)

Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion earlier proposed to require proof of booster vaccination before entering establishments in Metro Manila.

He said that this will ensure that an individual is still protected against COVID-19 as the effect of the primary doses wane after a few months.

Officials of the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Department of Health, however, expressed reservation to the proposal.
