1,933 Central Luzon villages now ‘drug-cleared,’ says PNP

At least 1,933 of 3,102 barangays (villages) in Central Luzon have been declared clear of drugs, according to the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3).

OLONGAPO CITY–At least 1,933 of 3,102 barangays (villages) in Central Luzon have already been declared clear of drugs, according to the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3).

In a statement on Monday (Feb.7), Brig. Gen. Matthew Baccay, PRO3 director, said the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs validated the absence of drug supply, drug transit activity, clandestine drug laboratory and chemical warehouse in these areas.

Baccay also said the absence of marijuana cultivation sites, drug dens, drug pushers and users in the area was also used as a basis for the declaration.

Among the seven provinces and two cities in Central Luzon, the province of Nueva Ecija topped the list with a total of 519 drug-cleared barangays.

“Needless to say, I am in awe that while I am the regional director of PRO3, more than half of the barangays in the four corners of the region, which are under my watch, have been declared drug-cleared,” Baccay said. INQ
