DTI confiscates, destroys over 400 deformed steel bars in Nueva Ecija

Some 467 confiscated deformed steel bars were destroyed at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) compound here on Monday, Feb. 7.

CABANATUAN CITY — Some 467 confiscated deformed steel bars were destroyed at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) compound here on Monday, Feb. 7.

Bobby Faronilo, DTI chief trade industry specialist in Nueva Ecija province, said the 10-millimeter steel bars were seized from a hardware store in Santa Rosa town, Nueva Ecija in November 2020.

“These steel bars were not compliant with the standards set by our Bureau of Philippine Standards,” Faronilo told the Inquirer.

He said the steel bars were unsafe to use and posed dangers to lives and property.

It took around three months before the steel bars were finally destroyed due to adjudication and auditing processes, said Richard Simangan, acting DTI provincial director. INQ
