Clark wall collapses; 4 killed, 4 hurt

CLARK FREEPORT, Philippines—A nine-meter-high wall collapsed on top of workers building it, killing four people and seriously injuring four others Friday.

The wall, 25 meters wide, was being erected on the northern section of the North Heaven Pharmaceutical building at the Industrial Estate 5 of the Clark International Airport, according to Senior Supt. Nicanor Targa, safety department chief of the Clark Development Corp. (CDC).

Paul Bredis, the foreman, told probers that the wall fell after a “sudden strong wind” swept through the area at around 2 p.m.

Enrique Laxamana, Rico Mabaga, Ryan Graduito and Joel Villapando died when they were pinned beneath the rubble, Targa said.

Jover Mesa, Rey Galos, Agustin Ganaganag and Rolly Sarmiento, who survived the accident, were taken to the Mt. Carmel Clark Hospital for medical treatment.
