No petition yet for taxi fare hike, says LTFRB

MANILA, Philippines—The Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) told the public not to panic amid reports of a P10 taxi fare increase.

LTFRB board member Manuel Iway said the Philippine National Taxi Operators Association (PINTOA) has not filed a petition for a fare increase amid continuous oil price increases.

PINTOA is seeking a P10 increase in the taxi flagdown rate plus P4.50 increase for every 300 meters.

Iway said that if the group files a petition for fare hike, public hearings and deliberation by the LTFRB Board will be conducted.

Thus far, he said that only the airport taxi group has a pending petition before the LTFRB. The jeepney drivers and operators also filed a petition asking for an increase of fare from the minimum P8 to P8.50 which will be subject to a hearing. Chona Yu, Radyo Inquirer
