MANILA, Philippines — The total number of areas under granular lockdown nationwide has reached 1,036 on Sunday, said the Philippine National Police (PNP), amid the continued rise of COVID-19 infections in the country.
Based on the PNP’s data as of Jan. 30, Police Regional Office (PRO) Cordillera reported the highest number at 404 total areas under granular lockdown.
Meanwhile, PRO Ilocos Region reported 252 areas, PRO Cagayan Valley with 152, PRO Calabarzon a total of 173, PRO 9 with 12, and PRO Mimaropa with 29.
On the other hand, only 14 of these areas were in Metro Manila, 10 of which were reported by the Eastern Police District, and another 4 by the Manila Police District.
The PNP did not specify which areas were under lockdown, but said that a total of 2,512 individuals are affected by these lockdowns.
Granular lockdowns refer to localized community lockdowns — be it a street or an entire condominium — where residents will not be allowed to constantly go in and out of their homes, and will last for a period not shorter than 14 days.
