MANILA, Philippines — Presidential aspirant Leody De Guzman “respects” the decision of progressive coalition Makabayan to endorse Vice President Leni Robredo and Sen. Francis Pangilinan for the upcoming elections.
“I respect the dynamism and decision of Makabayan,” De Guzman, who chairs the Buluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino, said in a statement in Filipino.
“Whatever is the outcome and practical considerations of their endorsement in other candidates, I would still pledge my support to Neri Colmenares and Bong Labog for their senatorial bid,” he added.
On Friday, senatorial aspirant Neri Colmenares, who chairs Bayan Muna, confirmed that the Makabayan Coalition had decided to endorse Robredo and Pangilinan.
Renato Reyes, secretary-general of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan), said that the group also supported both Colmenares’ inclusion and Makabayan’s decision to support Robredo and Pangilinan.
Colmenares said that their endorsement and support for the tandem was based on their unified position on issues of pandemic response; uplifting the lives of our workers, farmers, marginalized and natives; environmental issues; respect for human rights and real peace; and upholding the country’s sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea.
