Samar town village chief hurt in dynamite blast

ORMOC CITY — A village chief is fighting for his life after an accidental dynamite explosion in the sea off Barangay Tinaogan, Zumarraga town, Samar on Wednesday, Jan. 26.

Elino Sobrino, 58, was on board a fishing vessel along with two companions and was supposed to throw dynamite to the sea when it exploded in his hands, said Police Staff Sergeant Gerardo Araza, the case investigator.

Sobrino sustained injuries on his body while his hands were cut off.

His two companions sustained minor injuries.

Sobrino and his two companions were rushed to the Samar Provincial Hospital in Catbalogan City for medical treatment.

However, the village chief was transferred to the Eastern Visayas Medical Center in Tacloban City because of the severity of his injuries.
