Motorcycle back-rider dead in road accident in Quezon

LUCENA CITY — A motorcycle back-rider died in a road accident in Lucban town in Quezon province on Monday, January 24, report said Tuesday.

The Lucban police reported that Edwin Oriasel, 42, was riding a motorcycle driven by Melchor Pertes, 47, when the vehicle hit a stray dog along the diversion road in Barangay (village) Malupak around 3 p.m.

Pertes lost control of the motorcycle and Oriasel was thrown off, landed on the pavement and suffered grave head injuries.

Oriasel was taken to MMG Lucban Hospital in the town center but died along the way. The report did not state whether or not the victim was wearing a crash helmet.

Police said Pertes, who only sustained bruises, left the site of the accident and until the time of posting remains at large.

Report said the relatives of the victim have yet to file a complaint against Pertes and remain open to amicably settling the incident outside of the court.
