OCTA sees rise in new COVID-19 cases outside NCR, C. Luzon, Calabarzon

MANILA, Philippines — The number of daily reported COVID-19 infections outside the three major hotspots for COVID-19 increased to 58 percent of the national total from 12 percent in the previous week’s, said OCTA Research.
According to OCTA fellow Guido David, new cases outside of the top three regions with the most reported daily cases (Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon) were only 12 percent of the national total on January 11, but later rose to 58 percent on January 23.
“Unfortunately, this will continue to increase. Please practice caution in public places,” warned David.

This came after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 29,828 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, 5,178 or 18 percent of which were recorded in Metro Manila, 4,227 or 14 percent in Calabarzon and 2,787 or 10 percent in Central Luzon.
This indicates that these three locations no longer account for more than half of all new infections reported daily across the country, but still account for the bulk of cases.
With this, active infections in the country currently number 273,580 of the 3,417,216 confirmed infections of COVID-19.
