Areas in PH under granular lockdown now at 700 — PNP

MANILA, Philippines — Amid the continued rise of COVID-19 infections in the country, a total of 700 areas have now been placed under granular lockdown nationwide, said the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday.

According to the PNP, 146 of these areas are in Metro Manila, as reported by several local districts: one by the Northern Police District, 17 by the Eastern Police District, 30 by the Manila Police District, and 98 by the Quezon City Police District.

Meanwhile, Police Regional Office (PRO) Ilocos Region reported 233 areas under granular lockdown, while PRO Mimaropa reported a total of 19.

PRO Cordillera, on the other hand, reported the highest number at 302 total areas.

The PNP, however, did not specify which areas were put under lockdown, but said that a total of 1,836 individuals are affected by these lockdowns.

Granular lockdowns refer to localized community lockdowns — be it a street or an entire condominium — where residents will not be allowed to constantly go in and out of their homes for a period not shorter than 14 days.
