MANILA, Philippines — The Marikina City police arrested the other day two individuals for allegedly selling fake COVID-19 vaccination cards, the Eastern Police District (EPD) said on Sunday.
According to the EPD, the Marikina City Police Station (CPS) Task Force Greyhound apprehended Rovelyn Lebores and Alma Ramirez during an entrapment operation last Friday.
“Marikina CPS operatives were able to arrest the suspects after receiving an information from a confidential informant that a computer shop located along [Block] 39 Farmers 1 St., Tumana, Marikina is fabricating fake vaccination cards,” the police district said in a statement.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) – Marikina seized a set of computers that was used to produce fake vaccination cards and several fake copies of vaccination cards which were sold for P250.
The suspects are now detained at the custodial facility of the Marikina CPS and were charged for violation of falsification of public documents in connection to Section 12 of Republic Act No. 11525 or the COVID-19 Vaccination Program Act of 2021.
“[T]he Marikina PNP will stem its campaign and look forward to the continued aggressive campaign of our police not only against those who make and sell fake vaccination cards but also against those who buy and use them for they are not only victimizing their families, neighbors, and city residents but also themselves for risking their safety to potential infection,” Marikina police chief Col. Benliner Capili said.
“Marikina [local government unit] is very active when it comes to COVID-19 vaccines, the Marikina vaccination sites are open every day, so let’s get vaccinated instead to protect ourselves and our community,” he added.
