STA. MARIA, Bulacan—At least 68 families or 300 individuals in this town received Thursday, Jan. 20, a total of about P1.5 million worth of assistance from the provincial government of Bulacan after a fire destroyed their houses the previous day.
The fire victims at Villarica-Tabing Ilog compound in Barangay Poblacion were given emergency kits, blankets, beddings, and sacks of rice, said Gov. Daniel Fernando.
Fernando also ordered the immediate release of P10,000 housing assistance to all the affected residents. He also distributed P5,000 personal emergency cash aid.
The two-hour fire that started about 3 p.m. Wednesday razed about 50 houses.
Bureau of Fire Protection investigators had yet to determine the cause of the fire. INQ
