55% of COVID-19 patients in Tala Hospital unvaccinated
MANILA, Philippines — Fifty-five percent of COVID-19 patients in Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium in Tala, Caloocan City are unvaccinated.
According to the hospital’s Medical Director Dr. Alfonso Victorino Famaran Jr. on Monday, their COVID-19 beds are 53-percent occupied.
“‘Yung (The) total number of patients confined, 274 over 520 beds or 53-percent filled po ‘yung (our) beds,” he said during the Laging Handa briefing.
Majority or 55 percent of the confined patients are unvaccinated against COVID-19.
“Sa 274 po (Of the 274), 43 percent po ng naka-confine (who are confined), fully vaccinated; two percent is partially vaccinated; and 55 percent is not vaccinated,” he said.
Of the COVID-19 infections, 259 are moderate cases, eight are severe cases, and seven are critical cases.
Famaran said that the hospital does not accept mild patients and moderate cases which do not require oxygen tanks.
“‘Yung Tala Hospital po, hindi po kami nag-a-admit ng mild cases at saka moderate cases [na] non-oxygen requiring,” he noted.

Quarantined health workers
Meanwhile, almost 40 percent or 510 of their 1,300 health workers are under home quarantine, Famaran said.
“Currently, ‘yung (our) healthcare workers under home quarantine, 510 po silang lahat (they are 510),” he said.
He shared that nearly all of them have received their primary series of COVID-19 vaccines while mostly being administered with a booster dose.
“99.2 percent po sa mga healthcare workers dito naturukan na po ng first dose saka second dose po and booster ‘yung karamihan po,” Famaran noted.
(99.2 percent of healthcare workers here were injected with their first and second dose, and a booster dose was given to the majority of them.)
Despite the lack of personnel, the operations went on as they received manpower augmentation from the Department of Health.
“‘Yung hospital operations po tuloy pa rin po. Tapos, tumanggap po kami ng manpower augmentation from the Department of Health Central Office… So, a total of 229 manpower complement po sa hospital na pong ito,” Famaran pointed out.
