PH logs 52,907 COVID-19 deaths — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines on Sunday logged 50 new deaths, bringing the death toll to 52,907, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

The total number of deaths account for 1.65 percent of all cases.

Of the total number of deaths, 30 (6o percent) occurred this January 2022, while the rest occurred last year.

A total of 12 deaths occurred in September, three in August, two in July 2021, and one death each occurred in November, October, and June.

DOH said this due to late encoding of death information to their system. “This issue is currently being coordinated with the Epidemiology and Surveillance Units to ensure information is up to date,” it said.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country is now at 3,205,396 as 37,154 new cases were reported on Sunday.

The active cases now constitute nine percent of all cases at 287,856, with 98.4 percent of them having only mild and no symptoms. DOH said 273,924 patients have mild infections while 9,212 have no symptoms at all.

There are also 30,037 new recoveries, bringing the total number of survivors to 2,864,633, or 89.4 percent of all cases.

The current positivity rate is at 47.4 percent, far from the World Health Organization ideal positivity rate of five percent.

Meanwhile, the global COVID-19 caseload is now at 326.2 million, including 5.53 million deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University Case Tracker.
