MANILA, Philippines — The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country is now at 3,205,396 as 37,154 new cases were reported on Sunday, which is the third highest infection since the pandemic began, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
Sunday’s tally of cases is the third highest recorded daily infection in the country, only behind 39,004 cases logged on Saturday, and 37,207 cases recorded on Friday.
The active cases now constitute nine percent of all cases at 287,856, with 98.4 percent of them having only mild and no symptoms. DOH said 273,924 patients have mild infections while 9,212 have no symptoms at all.
There are also 30,037 new recoveries, bringing the total number of survivors to 2,864,633, or 89.4 percent of all cases.
The total number of deaths is now at 52,907 or 1.65 percent of all cases after 50 new mortalities were reported.
The current positivity rate is at 47.4 percent, far from the World Health Organization ideal positivity rate of five percent.
Meanwhile, the global COVID-19 caseload is now at 326.2 million, including 5.53 million deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University Case Tracker.
