New record-high: PH logs 37,207 new COVID-19 cases

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines broke new record for highest single-day tally of COVID-19 infection with 37,207 new cases on Friday, the highest since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

According to the Department of Health’s (DOH) bulletin, with the new cases, the total number of infections in the country has reached 3,129,512 — of which 265,509 are active.

The health department also recorded 9,027 new recoveries and 81 new deaths. This brought the recovery count and death toll to 2,811,188 and 52,815, respectively.

Of the active cases, the DOH said 252,502 are mild; 8,325 are asymptomatic; 2,913 are moderate; 1,469 are severe, and 300 are critical.

In terms of hospital utilization in the entire country, the DOH reported that 46 percent of ICU beds, 47 percent of isolation beds, 48 percent of ward beds, and 19 percent of ventilators are utilized.

In Metro Manila, the DOH said 55 percent of ICU beds, 55 percent of isolation beds, 67 percent of ward beds, and 26 percent of ventilators are utilized.

The DOH reminded the public to remain cautious and to follow minimum public health standards such as wearing face masks and observance of social distancing.
