Bataan town mayor tests positive for coronavirus

DINALUPIHAN, Bataan — Mayor Maria Angela Garcia of this town on Wednesday (Jan. 12) announced that she contracted COVID-19 and was undergoing quarantine.

In a statement on Facebook, Garcia said the result of the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction or RT-CPR test on Monday evening confirmed that she contracted the virus. She experienced mild symptoms.

Garcia’s close contacts prior to testing positive for the viral disease have also been quarantined.

She did not say how she was exposed to the virus but sources said the mayor attended an oath-taking ceremony in Barangay Baseco, Mariveles town last Sunday.

The mayor has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
