2 workers face raps for death of pastor from falling coco tree they were cutting

ORMOC CITY — Two workers of a coco lumber firm face a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide after a Protestant pastor died Monday when the coconut tree they cut fell on the victim in Barangay Sta. Fe, Matalom town, Leyte.

Lt. Renie Ablan of the Matalom Police Station identified the victim as Rizacion Ybañez, 63, of the Philippine Independent Church.

The suspects were Ricardo Pal and Edgardo Reriorato.

Investigation showed that the victim was traversing the national highway when the coconut tree cut down by the suspect fell on the victim.

Ybañez was brought to the Matalom Community Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
