MANILA, Philippines — Three Metro Manila cities have yet to pass their respective ordinances to restrict the movement of unvaccinated individuals, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said Wednesday.
Malaya said the cities of Makati, Navotas, and Pasig have yet to comply with a resolution passed by the Metro Manila Council (MMC) through the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) urging the passage of local ordinances barring unvaccinated individuals from going outside their residences for non-essential purposes.
The MMC is the policy-making body of the MMDA and is composed of the mayors of the 17 cities and one municipality of Metro Manila.
“Inaantay ko na lang kopya ng (I am waiting for the copy of) Makati, Navotas, and Pasig, they are the last LGUs that have not yet passed, they’re in the process of deliberations, their city councils are deliberating already the ordinances,” Malaya said over ABS-CBN News Channel.
“But I am very confident that all of them will pass this ordinance because the MMDA resolution was unanimous,” Malaya added.
The MMC resolution also asked cities and municipalities to bar the unvaccinated from indoor and outdoor dining at restaurants and other food establishments, and from leisure or social trips to malls, hotels, sports and other similar facilities. They are also prohibited from domestic travel via public land, sea and air transportation, except to buy essential goods and services such as food and water, for work or medical and health reasons.
The new protocol is in effect while Metro Manila is under COVID-19 Alert Level 3 or higher. Metro Manila is currently under Alert Level 3 until January 15.
